About these terms
These terms are between you and Ithoro LLC ("we"), which runs ASCII Realms and this site. By playing the game, or by using the site, you accept them; if you don't, please don't play or use it. How we handle personal information is explained in the privacy policy.
If you get the game from the App Store or Google Play, that store's own terms also apply to your download.
A game before release
ASCII Realms has not been released yet. Nothing on this site is an offer, or a promise of a release date, a feature, a price or a platform. Screenshots show the game before release, and what is described here may change or be dropped.
Who may play
You must be at least 13, or the higher minimum age required by the law where you live to play ASCII Realms or to join the email updates list.
Your account
- You can play as a guest. A guest account belongs to the device it was made on: until you save it with an email address, Apple or Google, it can't be recovered if you sign out or lose the device.
- Saved accounts sign in with an Ithoro login, which our games share. Keep your login to yourself and your password safe: you are responsible for what is done with your account.
- Your account is for you alone. Don't sell, share or transfer it, or use someone else's.
Names and fair play
Character names are public: other players in the world see them above your characters. A name must not be offensive, hateful, sexual or threatening, impersonate another person, a player or us, contain personal information (yours or anyone else's), or advertise anything.
You can report a character's name in the game if you think it breaks these rules, and block a player so you no longer see their characters' names. We review reports, and the game refuses some names outright.
When you play, don't:
- cheat, use bots or other automation, or exploit bugs to gain an advantage (please report them to us instead);
- try to break, overload or get around the security of the game, its servers or this site, or reach information that isn't yours;
- harass, threaten or deceive other players;
- sell or buy accounts, characters or items outside the game;
- file reports you know are false, or use reports to harass another player.
If you break these terms we may hide a character's name, rename or delete the character, remove what was gained unfairly, or suspend or close your account, depending on how serious it is. The same rules apply to this site and its signup form: no automated or bulk signups, and no attempts to get around its security.
The online game
- ASCII Realms is an online game: it needs our servers and an internet connection. We try to keep it running, but it may sometimes be unavailable, for example for maintenance or updates.
- We keep developing the game: we may change, add or remove features, content, items and balance, and installed games update their content by themselves.
- We may end the online game. If we do, we will try to announce it in the game and on this site before it ends. When it ends, accounts, characters and their progress end with it.
Ending your account
- You can delete your account at any time, in the game or by asking us (how). Deleting it deletes its characters, their progress and its cosmetics for good, and a Google Play reward it received can't be claimed again.
- We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, as described under Names and fair play.
The email updates list
- Signing up is free, and you can unsubscribe at any time.
- Only sign up with an address you are entitled to use. Please don't sign up anyone else.
- We may change how often we write, or close the list.
Who owns what
The ASCII Realms name, the game, its artwork and screenshots, and this site's text and design belong to Ithoro LLC or its licensors. We give you a personal, non-transferable licence to play the game for your own, non-commercial use under these terms. Don't copy, modify, reverse engineer or redistribute the game or its servers, except where the law allows it. You're welcome to view the site and share links to it; anything else needs our permission, except where a licence says otherwise. The site's fonts are open source and keep their own licences: Alegreya and DejaVu Sans Mono.
No guarantees
The game and the site are provided as they are. We try to keep them working, accurate and available, but we don't promise that they will always be available, error-free or up to date, or that progress will never be lost to a fault.
Liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of the game or the site. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under laws that cannot be excluded or changed by agreement.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The new version will appear here with its effective date, and applies from then on.
Law and disputes
New York law and applicable US federal law govern these terms, subject to the mandatory protections of the law where you live. Please contact us first so we can try to resolve a dispute informally. Disputes may be brought in the state or federal courts with jurisdiction in New York County, New York, and consumers keep any right to bring proceedings in their local courts. These terms do not require binding arbitration.
