Delete your account

How to delete your ASCII Realms account and everything on it, in the game or without it, and what happens to your data. ASCII Realms is made by Ithoro LLC.

In the game

You can delete your account in the game at any time, on every platform:

  1. On the character screen (after signing in, where you choose a character): choose Delete account under your characters, beside Sign out. In the world: open the realm panel (the O key, or the realm button on a phone or tablet) and choose delete account under the list of channels.
  2. Read what will be deleted. If you sign in with an Ithoro login, you can also tick Also delete my Ithoro login (below).
  3. Type DELETE and choose Delete ASCII Realms account (with the box ticked: Delete account and Ithoro login).

The game deletes your account and goes back to the sign-in screen. If one of your characters is playing on another device at that moment, the game says so and deletes nothing: leave the world there, then try again. If the game can't reach our server after you confirmed, it keeps trying, also the next time you open it. If your device was signed out of the game before the deletion, nothing is deleted: the game says so, and you can sign in again to delete it, or write to us (below).

Your Ithoro login

Signing in with an email address, Apple or Google uses an Ithoro login, the sign-in that Ithoro's games share (ASCII Realms, IdleBound and others). Deleting your ASCII Realms account deletes this game's account and data; your Ithoro login is a separate choice in the same step:

  • Kept (the default): your Ithoro login stays, and your device is signed out of it. You can still use it in our other games. Signing in to ASCII Realms with it again starts a new, empty account.
  • Also deleted (if you tick Also delete my Ithoro login): the login is deleted everywhere. You are signed out of every Ithoro game, IdleBound included, and can't sign in to any of them with it again. If you sign in with Apple, Ithoro also asks Apple to end Sign in with Apple for our games.

A guest account has no login: its Ithoro guest identity is deleted with it. If your device is no longer signed in to your Ithoro login, the game can still delete your ASCII Realms account on its own; to delete the login too, sign in with it again first, or write to us (below).

What is deleted

Straight away:

  • your ASCII Realms account;
  • every character on it, with its name, progress, items, gold and everything else that is its own;
  • the cosmetics the account owns, such as the Herald's Mantle;
  • every session of the game, on every device, with the IP address and device description each was made from;
  • the reports you filed and the reports of your characters' names, and the blocks you made and those of you;
  • the link between the account and your Ithoro login or guest identity.

If you also delete your Ithoro login, Ithoro accounts delete it straight away: its email address, password, Apple and Google sign-ins and sessions in every game.

What is kept, and for how long

  • Crash and error reports that name your account's or character's identifier, with technical details of your device and an approximate location (not your IP address). They are not deleted with your account: each is deleted 90 days after it was made, at the latest.
  • Our servers' request logs, which record the IP address each request came from. We haven't yet set a fixed period after which they are deleted; the privacy policy says when we do.
  • Backups of the game database, which keep a copy of the account until each is deleted, 2 days after it was made.
  • A record that the deletion happened, with no link to any account, so the game can confirm the deletion if our server's answer didn't reach it. It is kept for 30 days, then deleted within a day.
  • A record of each Google Play pre-registration reward claimed with the account, with no link to any account. It is not deleted: without it, the same reward could be claimed again.
  • If you deleted an Ithoro login that signs in with Apple, what is needed to end Sign in with Apple, only until Apple confirms it and for at most 30 days.

We keep nothing else of a deleted account.

Without the game

If you can't use the game, email support@asciirealms.com and ask us to delete your ASCII Realms account:

  • for an account you sign in to with an email address, write from that address;
  • for an account you sign in to with Apple or Google, or a guest account, tell us how you sign in (Apple, Google or as a guest), the name of each of your characters, and on which device you play;
  • say whether you want your Ithoro login deleted too.

We may ask for more to make sure the account is yours. We delete it, as described above, within the time the law requires (generally one month), and tell you when it is done.

Deleting one character

To delete a single character and keep your account, choose the character on the character screen, then Delete character. Its progress, items, gold and the reports of its name are deleted with it. The reports you filed and the blocks between your account and other players stay with your account.
